If you’re already using a heating pad on the table, a Bio Therapy Mat (far-infrared warmth + optional PEMF) can help clients feel relaxed sooner, make your techniques flow more smoothly, and give you a quick reset between sessions. Below is a simple, clinic-ready protocol you can copy and use today.
Why upgrade the heat?
-
Even, penetrating warmth: Far-infrared (FIR) warms more uniformly than spot heat and helps tissues soften without the “hot spots.”
-
Calmer nervous system: Gentle, steady warmth can help clients breathe deeper and relax faster—so more of your session is productive work.
-
Repeatable settings: Time and temperature controls make it easy to run the same, reliable setup every session.
-
Under linens: Lives under sheets/blankets, so your workflow doesn’t change.
Practitioner protocol (copy/paste for your clinic)
On-table setup (under sheets/blankets)
-
Preheat 15–20 minutes before your first session.
-
Choose heat: Low 95–105°F for relaxation work; Moderate 105–130°F for recovery sessions.
-
PEMF (optional): 10–20 min. Calming program in the evening; balanced program earlier in the day.
-
Keep a breathable cover or towel layer over the mat, then your standard fitted sheet.
-
Offer water/electrolytes after heat sessions.
Session flow tips
-
Begin with 2–3 minutes of slow breathing (about 4–6 breaths/min).
-
Use longer holds and slower strokes during the first 10 minutes while heat helps tissue soften.
-
If a client runs hot, lower to Low or pause heat; keep PEMF if tolerated.
Between-client reset (for practitioners)
-
10–15 minutes on Low heat for you to relax and recharge.
-
3 minutes of slow or box breathing (4-second inhale, 4-hold, 4-exhale, 4-hold).
-
Hydrate with electrolytes; add a 30–60 sec neck/shoulder mobility check-in.
Adjustments & safety
-
High DOMS after hard days? First add 10–20 minutes to the FIR session (move Low → Moderate). Optionally add a Red/NIR light therapy the same day or next morning.
-
Chasing better sleep? Run the warmest session late afternoon/evening; choose a calming PEMF program.
-
High heat once/day max; stop any session if a client feels light-headed.
-
Contraindications: photosensitivity, active fever, pregnancy, electronic implants, or other conditions may require clinical guidance. When in doubt, use Low or skip heat.
Cleaning & cover notes
-
Always keep a cover layer between mat and client; change linens between clients as usual.
-
Allow to cool before storage; fold and store in carry bag (included with most models).
Client handout: simple tracker
We’ve included a 7-day recovery tracker and a one-page protocol PDF you can print for clients (or send in their appointment follow-up). It keeps everyone consistent with temps, timing, and hydration.
